China's telecoms equipment giant Huawei Technologies has received approval on Thursday to build a 1 billion pound research and development facility in the United Kingdom, despite the nation’s ongoing security concerns around the Chinese company. 

South Cambridgeshire District Council approved the first phase of construction of Huawei’s planned R&D center, which the company intends to use to build state-of-the-art chips. Huawei said it will invest £1 billion in the first phase of the development. 

The nine-acre facility in Cambridge will employ around 400 people and focus . . .
