Chinese cinemas were officially allowed to reopen on Monday, ending a half-year closure, raising hope that the world’s second largest movie market can start to recover from painful losses during the coronavirus pandemic.
According to a directive for the China Film Administration, cinemas in areas deemed “low risk” will be allowed to open for now, which includes much of China as the domestic coronavirus outbreak is largely under control.
