China’s electricity consumption hit a new record high in August as economy recovers

China's electricity consumption continued to pick up and hit a new record high in August, indicating further recovery in the world's second largest economy from the coronavirus outbreak.

According to data released by the National Energy Administration on Tuesday, China's total electricity consumption increased by 0.5 per cent year over year in the period of January - August to 4.77 trillion kWh. This marks the first time this year that the accumulative electricity consumption has returned to growth.

In August alone, electricity consumption increased 7.7 per cent to 729.4 . . .
