China's grain imports surged in August, with corn imports hitting the highest level since May 2016, as the country rush to fill a domestic shortfall as recovering domestic demand for animal feed ingredients increased the demand.

China's brought in 1.02 million tonnes of corn in August, up 12 per cent from the previous month and nearly five times higher than the volume recorded in the same period last year, showed customs data on Wednesday.
