China’s electricity supply shortage this winter has led to power rationing in Hunan, Zhejiang and Jiangxi provinces, as a harsh winter drives people to turn up the heating and power generation from renewable sources such as solar and wind.

The country's state planner said on Thursday that China's power supply capacity was “generally sufficient” after cold temperatures in southern regions brought a spike in demand and restrictions on usage, according to the official Xinhua news agency.
