China's consumer inflation returned to growth in December driven by rising food prices, factory-gate deflation eased

China’s headline consumer inflation returned to growth in December after slipping into negative territory in the previous month for the first time in 11 years.

China’s official consumer price index (CPI) rose to 0.2 per cent in December from a year earlier, compared to minus 0.5 per cent in November, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Monday. This was above with the median results of a Bloomberg survey of analysts which had predicted a rise to zero per cent.
