Carmakers around the world have been hit in recent weeks by a worsening global semiconductor shortage that’s led to production cuts and staff layoffs.

GAC Toyota Motor Co., a joint-venture between China's GAC Group and Japanese automaker Toyota, said earlier this month that, due to a shortage of auto chips, operations of some production lines were suspended at one point although the production had already resumed.

From December 2020 to January this month, other auto joint venture in China including SAIC Volkswagen Automotive Company Ltd, FAW-Volkswagen Automobile Co., Ltd, Guangqi Honda . . .
