Beijing, Suzhou to hand out 40 million yuan during Spring Festival as digital yuan trials expand

China's capital city of Beijing and Suzhou city in Jiangsu province will hand out a total of 40 million yuan ($6.2 million) during the Spring Festival this week in a move to expand the country's trials of the sovereign digital currency .

The city of Beijing will distribute 10 million yuan of red packets each containing 200 digital yuan via a lottery system on Wednesday, which can be used for shopping both online and offline.
