Steel production in China has continued to step up in the first quarter despite production restriction on in the country's largest steelmaking hub Tangshan, underlining the dilemma faced by the Chinese authorities in balancing the need to keep the economy on track with its commitment to carbon neutrality target.

The blast furnace capacity utilisation rate of the 247 major steel mills in China remained close to 87 per cent after a small rise of 0.02 percentage points over the past week, according to Chinese metals market analyst MySteel. Analysts consider this a high use rate . . .
