China’s pork prices are sliding amid production recovery, sluggish demand

Pork prices in China have been falling since the Spring Festival in February, amid recovering pig production capacity, sluggish demand and panic selling by farmers.

In April, pork price fell 11 per cent from the previous month and down 21.4 per cent compared to the same period last year, 3 percentage points faster than a month earlier, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics.

Data from the National Development and Reform Commission, the top economic planner, showed that China's live hog prices stood at 20.43 yuan per kg on May . . .
