China’s provincial GDPs show widening gap between coastal and inland regions in the first half

The disparities in economic growth across Chinese provinces widened further in the first half of the year, with the economies in coastal regions charging ahead boosted by increased exports while northern and inland provinces continued lagging behind due to their dependency on slowing government investments.

Local government data showed that 24 of the 25 provinces that had released first-half GDP figures as of July 22 expanded at a double-digit growth in the period year over year, with only northeastern China's Liaoning province growing by 9.9 per cent.
