Crude steel output in China's five major steelmaking hubs declined in July from a year earlier amid the government campaign to cut steel output, the Covid-19 resurgence and weaker demand in a traditional low season.

Crude steel output in Hebei province, the country's largest steelmaking hub, dropped 19.5 per cent in July from a year earlier to 18.13 million tonnes, according to data compiled by Mysteel consultancy.

In the other four biggest steelmaking provinces - Jiangsu, Shandong, Liaoning and Shanxi, crude steel output last month stood at 10.14 million tonnes . . .
