Chinese internet giant NetEase will invest at least 10 billion yuan ($1.4 billion) a year to develop large language models and other technology, said CEO Ding Lei.
AI is a “historical opportunity not seen in a century” and NetEase’s priority is to explore the innovation and application of LLMs at the fastest pace, Ding said.
With the investment, NetEase will continue to make breakthroughs in technology engines, LLMs, chips, etc, Ding said, adding that a number of the company’s laboratories and research centers will explore the integration and innovation of AI in gaming, education, industry, medicine, and other key sectors.
To cope with the challenges in the AI field and promote high-quality development, it’s necessary to establish supervision rules with transparent policies and strict law enforcement, he said.
