Bilibili’s DAU rose 17% on year in H1, average daily usage time hit new record in Q2

Chinese short video platform Bilibili’s average daily active users (DAU) reached approximately 95.1 million in the first half of 2023, an increase of 17% from a year earlier, said Chen Rui, chairman and CEO.

The average DAU in the the second quarter of the year grew by 15% on year to 96.5 million, and users’ average daily usage time was 94 minutes, marking a record high for the same period, while the total usage time of the community grew by 22%, he said.

The growth of DAU is the prerequisite and foundation for the company to achieve profitability, which is expected to form a positive cycle, he said.

Both DAU and average daily usage time are expected to continue to post healthy and strong growth, with DAU expected to exceed 100 million in Q3 for the first time in and average daily usage time to hit a new record. 

While controlling the marketing expenses, the company will be able to attract and retain more users through high-quality content and community and convert them into commercial revenue, he said.

Bilibili’s advertising revenue grew by 29% year over year in the first half of the year and several commercializaiton measures on advertising and live-streaming will be further integrated into the platform ecosystem, which is expected to to further enhance the efficiency on traffic monetization, the company aid.

Li Ni, chief operating officer, forecast the compay’s full-year advertising revenue will grow by 25% – 30% in 2023 from the previous year. 

The advertising revenue from the e-commerce segment, specifically, is projected to expand 50% – 60% year over year during this year’s “Double 11” shopping season, Li said.
