BYD reportedly plans to mass produce sodium-ion batteries in Q2 2023

BYD Company plans to mass-produce sodium-ion batteries in the second quarter of 2023, and they will be featured in the Qin EV, Dolphin and new model Seagull, reported Chinese tech media outlet LatePost reported.

BYD’s power battery division FinDreams is responsible for the development and mass production of the batteries, which are currently in the sample validation stage, per the report.

The Qin EV and Dolphin are both pure electric vehicle models priced at 100,000 – 150,000 yuan, and BYD’s Seagull, to be launched next year, is a small A0-class sedan priced at 80,000 – 100,000 yuan, the report said.

BYD is likely to be the first company in the world to put sodium-ion batteries in vehicles, and such batteries will be in some versions of the Qin EV, Dolphin and Seagull, the report said.
