China will start release state reserves of pork in batches starting from September to meet rising pork demand during holiday season, the National Development and Reform Commission, the top economic planner, said on Monday.

The NDRC will also guide local authorities to release pork reserves and will closely watch market condition and safeguard market order, it said.

Hog farmers are advised to make reasonable production arrangements and slaughter pigs at a normal pace and related companies should related commercial pork reserves and increase market supply in an orderly way, said the NDRC.

The average live hog price in China stood at 22.37 yuan per kg on August 24, rising by 1.91% from that on August 17, according to data from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the top economic planner.

Average wholesale price of corn, a major hog feed, stood at 2.86 yuan per kg on August 24, in line with that on August 17, and the hog-to-grain price ratio, a measure of profitability in the hog farming industry, stood at 7.82 on August 24, rising by 1.96% from August 17, according to the NDRC.
