China’s tier-one and tier-two cities may see a shortage in electrical vehicle charging facilities amid surging new energy vehicles, restrictions on installation of private charging piles and insufficient public charging piles, according a recent research note from China International Capital Corporation (CICC).
The shortage in charging facilities will deteriorate starting from 2022 and the worsening problem may promote commercialization of battery swap, regulations which encourages slow charging facilities enter residential community and carmakers accelerating constructing a network of fast charging facilities, said the note.
Two trends will become clearer – relaxation of policies on installing private charging facilities in residential communities and promotion of battery swap model due to difficulties in continued expansion of public charging facilities, said CICC.
