China’s domestic rare earth price trended lower in the first half of the year, with the rare earth industry price index falling from 664 in the beginning of the year to 454 at the end of June, according to commodity consultancy 100ppi.

Rare earth prices remain under great downward pressure in the short term and weak fluctuation will continue in the third quarter, before entering a traditional high season in the fourth quarter when rare earth production and sales are expected to grow, it said.

Given the rapid development of the new energy, new material and energy-saving industries, the gap in China’s domestic rare earth supply remains, it noted.
