China real estate market posted a strong performance in the first quarter of the year driven by the concentrated release of pent-up demand and supportive policy, with particular strong sales in top cities in February – March, but the market failed to extend the momentum in the second quarter as homebuyers’ sentiment weakened quickly and the effect of housing policy missed expectation, said China Index Academy in a research report.

In the second half of the year, China’s home sales by floor area are expected to grow slightly on year due to low base last year and the full-year sales are expected to be largely in line with 2022, it estimates.
