China’s lithium carbonate futures drop further after breaking through 180,000 yuan mark, spot price fell below 200,000 yuan for first time in four months

China’s lithium carbonate futures decline further on Monday after breaking through 180,000 yuan per tonne mark last Friday.

The most-traded lithium carbonate futures contract on the Guangzhou Futures Exchange, for January, 2024 delivery, slid as much as 3% to hit a low of 170,750 yuan per tonne, before paring loss to about 1% to trading at 177,400 yuan per tonne.

On Friday, the spot price of battery-grade lithium carbonate fell by 1,500 yuan per tonne to 197,500 yuan per tonne, falling below for first time in more than three months and down for the 4th straight day, according to data from Shanghai Metals Market. The price fell by 8,000 yuan per tonne in the recent five days and by 81,000 yuan per tonne in the recent 30 days. 

The spot price of battery-grade lithium hydroxide fell by 1,000 yuan per tonne to 182,000 yuan per tonne on Friday, marking the lowest level in more than one year and sliding for the 40th consecutive day, showed the data. The price fell by 8,000 yuan per tonne in the recent five days and by 79,000 yuan per tonne in the recent 30 days.
