China’s retail sales of passenger cars reached 1.63 million units in April, rising by 55.5% from a year earlier, due to the impact of Covid lockdown in Shanghai and Jilin in April last year, said the China Passenger Car Association.
The sales rose by 2.5% from the previous month, marking one of the only two month-on-month growth for April since 2010, it said.
China’s retail sales of new energy vehicles reached about 527,000 units in April, surging by 85.6% from a year earlier, down 3.6% from the previous month, said the China Passenger Car Association.
The penetration rate of NEV retail sales reached 32.3% in April, rising by 6.6 percentage points from the 25.7% in the same period last year, it said.
In the first four months of the year, China’s retail sales of NEVs reached 1.84 million units, rising by 36% year over year, said the association.
China exported about 91,000 units of NEVs in April, surging 1,028.5% from a year earlier and rising by 29.4% from the previous month, according to the data.
In particular, Tesla China exported 35,886 units of China-made vehicles in April, while SAIC Motor exported 21,450 units, while BYD Company exported 14,827 units, it said.
