China’s passenger car sales reached 2.27 million units in August, rising by 8.2% from the previous month and up 6.9% from a year earlier, according to the China Association of Automobile manufacturers. 

Passenger car production reached 2.275 million units, rising by 7.5% from the previous months and up 5.4% from a year earlier, it said. 

In the first eight months of the year, passenger car sales reached 15.64 million units, up 6.7% from a year earlier, and production reached 15.67 million units, up 5.9%, showed the data.

Separately, China’s commercial vehicle sales reached 240,000 units in August, sliding 17% from a year earlier, said Cui Dongshu, secretary general of China Passenger Car Association.

During the first eight months of the year, commercial car sales reached 1.88 million nits, rising 3% year over year mainly due to a low base in March – May last year, showed the data.

In particular, sales of new energy commercial vehicles reached about 31,000 units in August, surging 70% from a year earlier and rising 13% from the previous month, showed the data.

In the first eight months of the year, sales of new energy commercial vehicles reached about 158,000 units, surging 70% year over year, said the association.

The penetration rate of new energy commercial vehicles in the first eight months reached 8.4%, and in August alone, the rate reached 12.9% in August, rising from 8.9% in the same period last year, showed the data.
