China’s tech hub Shenzhen saw exports rise 19.4% on year in Jan – Aug, imports slid 7.1%

China’s technology hub of Shenzhen saw its total imports and exports reach 2.37 trillion yuan in the first eight months of the year, rising by 8.1% from a year earlier, according to data released by Shenzhen customs administration.

In breakdown, exports reached 1.5 trillion yuan, surging 19.4% from a year earlier, and imports reached 872.66 billion yuan, sliding 7.1%, showed the data.

By category, exports of mechanical and electrical products reached 1.09 trillion yuan, rising by 11.8% from a year earlier and accounting for more than 73% of the city’s total exports, with exports of electric vehicles surging more than six times, showed the data. 

Imports of mechanical and electrical products accounted for nearly 80% of the city’s total imports, with imports of chipmaking equipments surging 133.1% to 12.7 billion yuan.
