China is expected to see about 2.095 billion passenger trips during the 40-day Spring Festival travel rush (Jan 7 – Feb 15), surging 99.5% from a year earlier and representing about 70.3% of the level seen in the same period in 2019, Xu Chengguang, Vice Minister of Transport, said at a press briefing on Friday.
Of that, 55% of the passenger trips will be for family visits, about 24% being trips made by migrant workers, while about 10% for tourism and business purposes, he said.
The average daily vehicle traffic on expressways is expected to reach 26.2 million units, rising by 3.6% from a year earlier, he said.
