China’s passenger trips during Dragon Boat Festival holiday slid over 22%from pre-pandemic level, railway passenger trips higher

China recorded 140.47 million passenger trips, including railway, road, waterway and airway, during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, rising by 89.1% from a year earlier, but sliding 22.8% from the level in the same period in 2019, according to data released by the Ministry of Transport. 

As the holiday lasts for three days, domestic passenger trips were mostly short-distance and high-speed train and self-driving are the mostly chosen way for travels, according to the ministry.

In breakdown, railway passenger trips reached 43.26 million during the holiday, rising by 12.8% from the level seen in the same period in 2019 and surging 150.2% from a year earlier, showed the data.

Vehicle traffic on national expressways reached 117 million cars, an average daily vehicle traffic of 39.05 million units, rising by 23.9% from 2019-level and surging 34.8% from a year earlier, according to the ministry.
