China’s railway passenger traffic back to 77% of pre-pandemic level, full-year recovery expected to reach 86%

China recorded about 1.37 billion railway passenger trips in the first half of this year, rising67 per cent from a year earlier and back to 77 per cent of the level seen in the same period in 2019 before the Covid-19 pandemic struck, according to data released by China State Railway Group Co. Ltd, the national railway operator.

In breakdown, railway passenger trips in February, when the country had Lunar New Year holidays, totaled 143 million, down 8.9 per cent from the previous month and falling 50.8 per cent from level seen in . . .
