China’s rice imports surged 42% on year in Jan – Aug – customs data

China’s cumulative imports of rice in the first eight months of the year reached 4.56 million tonnes, surging 42.5% from a year earlier, according to data released by China’s General Administration of Customs.

According to the customs administration, the average price of China’s rice imports in July reached $400.86 per tonne, down 11.76% from the same period last year, showed the data.

In August alone, China imported 480,000 tonnes of rice, an increase of 34.8% year over year, while in July, imports rose 73.7% on year to more than 499, 000 tonnes, customs data showed.
