China’s second-hand home listings surged in the first half of 2023, reflecting the deteriorating supply-demand conflicts and blocked transactions in the existing home market, Yan Yuejin, research director of the E-House China R&D Institute.

As second-hand homes become increasingly hard to sell, the market has quietly become a buyer’s market, said Yan.

He recommended that the government’s stimulus policy to support the second-hand home market should not only be limited to short-term relaxation of restrictions, but take a long-term view to revitalize the market.
