China’s largest online travel agency Trip.com’s CEO Jane Sun said that she is extremely optimistic on the post-pandemic development of the tourism industry and overseas travels in the upcoming National Day holiday in October.

China’s overseas air passenger capacity has only recovered to 50% of the pre-pandemic level, with the number of overseas flight during the May Day holiday reaching 40% of the level in the same period in 2019, but online search volume for overseas flights has reached 60% of pre-pandemic level, indicating more travel demand, said Sun, adding that the situation during the National Day holiday will improve further.

Trip.com is actively deploying artificial intelligence, and as of August, its AI tourism guide TripGen has solved search problems for users from more than 200 countries and regions, and the guide’s conversion is more than double that for ordinary users and retention rate is 30% – 40% higher, she said.
