Chinese civil aviation’s recovery in H1 exceeded expectations, domestic passenger flights this summer to rise 11% from 2019-level – official

China’s civil aviation sector rebounded in the first half of the year to approach the level in the same period in 2019, with both air passenger and cargo transport exceeding expectations, said Song Zhiyong, head of the Civil Aviation Administration of China.

The sector transported 53.1 billion tonne-kilometers of freight, 284 million passengers, and 3.3 million tonnes of cargo and mail in the first half, representing 85%, 88%, and 93%, respectively, of the same period in 2019, respectively, data from the CAAC showed.

The number of domestic passenger flights will jump to an average of 13,600 per day during the summer holidays this year, up 11% from the same period in 2019 and air passenger volume will rise 7% to more than 1.8 million, said the CAAC.
