China is facing a huge shortage of surgical masks, protective suits and other medical supplies in the fight against a spreading coronavirus epidemic. Industrial companies including Foxconn and several automobile manufacturers have started to refit their manufacturing facilities to fill the gap.

Apple supplier Foxconn has built its own production line for surgical masks and asked Taiwanese employees to sign consent forms for returning to mainland China, in a move to restart production next Monday.
