Global NEV sales rose 33.6% on year in H1; Tesla, BYD, GAC ranked top three in BEV market – research

The global sales of new energy vehiclese reached 5.462 million units in the first half of the year, an increase of 33.6% from a year earlier, according to market research firm TrendForce. 

Of that, NEV sales in the second quarter reached 3.03 million units, surging 42.8% from a year earlier and accounting for 14.4% of the total auto sales, showed the data.

In particular, sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) alone reached 2.151 million units in the second quarter, rising by 39.3% from a year earlier. Tesla has a market share of 21.7% in the global BEV market, still at the top of the chart, followed by China’s BYD Company with a market share of 16.2%, and GAC Aion with a 6% share.

China, Western Europe and the US continue to dominate the NEV market, while sales in emerging markets such as Thailand and Australia have also made significant progress, with sales in the first half exceeding 35,000 units in both countries, according to the report.
