Several Chinese cities require more frequent Covid testing amid resurgence

Several Chinese cities have required more frequent nucleic acid testing for Covid since the start of July and tightened other restrictions on residents’ mobility amid recent resurgence.

The city of Zhengzhou, capital of central China’s Henan province, will require residents to take nucleic acid testing for Covid every 48 hours, starting from July 15, compared to previous requirement of testing per 72 hours, said the local authority on Thursday.

Earlier, several other cities have taken similar steps. In the city of Hangzhou, capital of East China’s Zhejiang province, residents are required to take nucleic acid testing every three days, compared to previous seven days. In Hefei, capital of East China’s Anhui province, residents are now required to take testing every five days, compared to previous seven days.

In Nanchang, capital of Jiangxi province, all residents are now required to show negative results of nucleic testing taken within 48 hours before entering public venues and take public transportation. Previously, there were no restrictions on mobility in low-risk districts.

Lanzhou, capital of Northwest China’s Gansu province, has conducted four round mass testing.
