China’s top chipmaker SMIC surged nearly 11% to close at HK$21.85 on Monday. Its Shanghai-traded shares surged 6% to close at 56.9 yuan.
Huawei Technologies last week launched the Mate 60 Pro in China, and the device employed HiSilicon’s latest 5G processor Kirin 9000 (Hi36A0), which was rumoured to have utilized SMIC’s N+2 7nm process.
Tech market research firm TechInsights said it will soon publish a technical analysis and review of the Huawei Mate 60 Pro. If the use of SMIC’s N+2 7nm (integrated SRAM cache) and 5G RF front-end chipset is confirmed, it will be a major milestone and breakthrough for China’s semiconductor industry.
