State media People’s Daily calls for regulation on live-streaming to eradicate chaos

Online live-streaming was supposed to be an interesting way of interaction, but under the operation of some live-streamers and online platforms, it has become a vulgar and even harmful means of competition, said China’s state-run People’s Daily in an editorial on Thursday. 

In order to attract traffic and chase profits, some live-streaming platforms use self-inflicted fights and extreme content, it said.

A clean and righteous live-streaming climate won’t be formed and chaos in the field can’t be eradicated without live-streamers’ self-discipline, platforms’ crackdown, the government’ strict regulations and severe punishment by the law, it said.
