TSMC and Vanguard International Semiconductor have recently lowered their 8-inch foundry quotations by up to 30% due to sluggish end-demand and competition in the market, according to Taiwan’s media udn.com, citing industry sources.

The industry estimated that TSMC’s main revenue and profits come from 12-inch foundry and high-end manufacturing processes, and the impact of the 8-inch foundry price cuts is limited.

TSMC has not commented so far, while Vanguard said it would not comment on the price issue. However, Leuh Fang, Vanguard’s chairman, recently admitted that he is aware of the impact of price cuts by major international companies and will respond directly to the situation.
