The US Senate overwhelmingly backed legislation on Tuesday that would require US companies to notify federal agencies of investments in Chinese technologies such as semiconductors and artificial intelligence.

The Senate backed the amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) by 91 to 6.

The amendment is a version of the Outbound Investment Transparency Act, offered by Democratic Senator Bob Casey and Republican John Cornyn to address the risks of U.S. investment going to foreign adversaries like China.
