US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen met with China’s central bank governor Yi Gang and former economy tsar Liu He for informal talks on the global, US, and Chinese economies on Friday, according to Reuters citing a US Treasury official.

Yellen comes to Beijing seeking to ease tensions between the world’s two superpowers, although expectations are low, with officials from both sides accepting that safeguarding national security interests now trumps deepening economic ties.

They had a “substantive conversation,” without giving any further details.
