For quite a long period, the US has been abusing export control measures, continuously escalating its suppression and containment of China’s semiconductor industry and artificially fragmenting the global semiconductor market, said China’s Ministry of Commerce at a news briefing on Thursday.

That’s a destruction of global free trade, a disregard for international economic and trade rules and a trampling on the principle of fair competition, it said.

China is the world’s largest semiconductor market, with chip sales accounting for about 1/3 of the world total, and that’s the result of mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation between Chinese and overseas companies, it said.

The US approach will not only hurt the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese firms, but also harm the interests of many other countries and regions, hinder global scientific and technological exchanges and economic and trade cooperations, and eventually backfire, the ministry said.Â
