Beijing city raised coronavirus emergency level, shut schools, imposed travel curbs as coronavirus cases mount

Beijing’s city government on Tuesday raised its coronavirus emergency response measures to level II from previous level III, according to state media, as the cit battles with a fresh outbreak of the new coronavirus.

Beijing has confirmed 106 new cases of coronavirus since June 11, said the local authority on Tuesday. Prior to that date, the 21 million-strong city had gone two months without any new infections.
