China released new rules for foreign investment security review, saying it’s not protectionist

Chinese authorities have released new rules for reviewing foreign investment on national security ground and stressed that the move is not protectionist and China is committed to further opening up.

The rules, jointly released by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the Ministry of Commerce (MOC), specified provisions concerning the security review mechanism on foreign investment.

Conducting security reviews on foreign investments that affect or may affect national security is a regular international practice, said the two government departments in a joint statement. "Only by tightening the fence against security risks can China . . .
