China’s services sector expanded at slowest pace in nine months in January amid COVID-19 outbreaks in some regions, shows private survey

China’s services sector activity growth slowed sharply in January, a private sector survey showed on Wednesday, as the latest coronavirus outbreak in parts of the country hit sentiment ahead of the Spring Festival holiday.

The Caixin/Markit services Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) fell to 52.0 in January from 56.3 in December, indicating that sector activity continued to expand, but at its slowest pace during the nine months of economic recovery.
