China's power crunch may curb aluminium production, July output hit lowest since October 2020

China's surging electricity consumption and resulting power crunch is expected to curb aluminum production this year and domestic prices are expected to stay elevated in the near term.

The country's aluminium output in July declined for a third consecutive month, with daily average level at the lowest since October 2020 as continued power shortages in the south of the country kept smelter operating rates low.

China churned out 3.26 million tonnes of primary aluminium last month, showed data released by the National Bureau of Statistics on Monday, down 0.9 per cent . . .
