Baidu’s goal in building generative AI foundational models is to help companies across various industries improve productivity and operational efficiency, said Shen Dou, president of Baidu’s Intelligent Cloud Business Group, said at a result conference call.

It’s still too early to talk about the business model and the business have been constantly involving, he said, adding that Baidu has preference to some models, but will continue to keep an open attitude to accelerate the development of the AI technology, said Shen.

Apart from providing customers with AI-based computing infrastructure, Shen said that Baidu is also considering charging customers for using the Ernie Bot services or other AI applications like the code assistant Comate.

The company may also charge customs for retraining models, operating customers’ own models on Baidu’s platforms, or deployment of Baidu models on customs’ private cloud, he said.
