China retail sales up 3.1% on year in June, vs previous 6.7% drop

China’s retail sales grew 3.1% in June from a year ago, said the National Bureau of Statistics, compared to expected 0.5% drop and the 6.7% fall in the previous month.

Retail sales excluding automobiles grew by 1.8% on year in June, it said.

During the first half of the year, China’s retail sales fell 0.7% from the same period last year, and retail sales excluding automobiles fell 0.1% on year, showed the NBS data.

In breakdown, retail sales of physical goods grew 3.9% on year in June, while catering sales fell 4%. In the first half, physical goods sales grew by 0.1% on year , while catering sales slid 7.7%, showed the data.
