China’s automobile exports reached 2.14 million units in the first half of this year, surging 76% from last year, exceeding Japan’s 2.02 million units to claim the top spot globally, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.

During the first six months, China’s exports of electric vehicle continued to grow rapidly, reporting a nearly threefold growth from that of last year and accounting for 25% of the total vehicle exports, confirming China’s position as a driving force in the global EV market, the association said.

Tesla, using its Shanghai factory as an export base for the Asian market, exported more than 180,000 vehicles in the first half, and BYD Company exported over 80,000 vehicles.

Russia has emerged as the largest destination for China-made EV exports.
