China is willing to treat the US as a friend and a partner and will introduce more measures to promote people-to-people exchanges, said Chinese President Xi Jinping in a speech during his visit to the US.

Between China and the US, viewing each other as a major competitor and the biggest geopolitical threat will unequivocally lead to mistakes in policies and actions, resulting in undesirable outcomes, said Chinese President Xi Jinping in a speech during a banquet with US social groups.

China is willing to treat the US as a partner and a friend, and China remains committed to handling its ties with the US based on the fundamental principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation, said Xi.

China never bets on the US to lose, never interferes in its internal affairs, has no intention of challenging or replacing the US, and would be happy to see a confident and open, developing and prosperous US, Xi said.

Similarly, the US should not bet on China to lose, should not interfere in China’s internal affairs, and should welcome a peaceful, stable and prosperous China, he said.

In order to expand exchanges between the people of China and the US, especially the youth generation, China is willing to invite 50,000 American youths to come to China for exchanges and study in the next five years, Chinese President Xi Jinping said.

The two countries will introduce more measures to facilitate people-to-people exchanges, including increasing direct passenger flight volume, holding high-level tourism dialogues and optimizing the visa application procedure, he said.
