China’s auto sales returned to growth in Aug, up 8.4% on year, rising 8.2% on month – industry association

China’s car sales reached 2.58 million unis in August, rising by 8.4% from a year earlier and up 8.2% from the previous month, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers. 

Sales fell by 9% month on month in July and by 1.4% year on year to 2.39 million units, according to CAAM data.

China produced 2.575 million units of cars in August, rising by 7.5% year over year and up 7.2% from the previous month, showed the data.

In the first eight months of the year, China’s auto sales reached 18.21 million units, an increase of 8% from a year earlier, slowing slightly by 0.1 percentage points from the first seven months, showed the data. 

Auto production during the eight-month period reached 18.23 million units, rising by 7.4% from a year earlier, in line with the growth in the Jan – Jul period, according to the association.

In breakdown, domestic car sales reached 2.175 million units in August, rising by 4.8% from a year earlier and up 9% from the prior month, while car exports reached 408,000 units, surging 32.1% from a year earlier and up 3.9% from the previous month, showed the data.

In the first eight months of the year, China’s domestic car sales reached 15.27 million unis, up 1.5% from a year earlier, while car exports reached 2.94 million units, surging 61.9% year over year.

China’s new energy vehicle sales reached 846,000 units in August, rising by 27% from a year earlier and up 8.5% from the prior month, said the association.

In Jan – Aug, NEV sales reached 5.37 million units, a rise of 39.2% from the same period last year, showed the data.

Domestic NEV sales reached 756,000 units, rising by 29.7% from a year earlier and up 11.4% from the previous month, while NEV exports reached 90,000 units, up 8.1% from a year earlier but sliding 11.2% from the previous month, showed the data.

In the first eight months, domestic NEV sale reached 4.65 million units, surging 32% from a year earlier, while NEV exports reached 727,000 units, surging 1.1 times year over year, said the association.
