China’s auto sales surged 30% on year in July, auto exports hit new record – industry association

China’s auto sales reached 2.42 million units in July, falling 3.3% from the previous month, but rising 29.7% from a year earlier, according to data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.

China’s auto output reached 2.455 million units in July, falling 1.8% from the month before and surging 31.5% from a year ago, showed the data.

In particular, output and sales of new energy vehicles reached 617,000 units and 593,000 units in July, both surging 120% from a year earlier, according to the data.

While July’s auto output and sales were both lower than the previous month, they marked the highest for the same period on record, said the association, adding that the sector is currently showing a good momentum of development and that is expected to last.

In the period of January – July, China’s auto sales and output totaled 14.48 million units and 14.57 million units, respectively, down 2% and up 0.8% from the same period last year, showed the data.

New energy vehicle output and sales reached 3.28 million units and 3.19 million units, respectively, in the seven-month period, surging by 120% from the same period last year, said the association.

China exported about 290,000 units of cars in July, marking a new record high, rising 16.5% from the previous month and jumping 67% from a year earlier, said the association.

Exports of new energy vehicles totaled about 54,000 units last month, leaping 89.9% from the month before and rising 37.6% from a year earlier, it said.

In the first seven months of the year, China exported 1.51 million units of automobiles, an increased of 50.6% from the same period last year, showed the data.

China’s full-year auto exports in 2022 is expected to exceed 2.4 million units, in line with the forecast make at the start of the year, it said.
