China’s CPI grew 2.1% in May from a year earlier, according to the National Bureau of Statistics, in line with previous month and compared to expected 2.2% growth.
China’s food prices grew 2.3% in May from a year earlier, in line with the growth in the previous month. Pork prices fell 21.1% on year , narrowing by 12.2 percentage points from the drop in April. Prices of vegetables and eggs rose 11.6% and 11.4%, slowing by 12.4 percentage points and 1.9 percentage points from the month before.
China’s non-food prices grew 2.1% in May from a year earlier, compared to 2.2% growth in April. Prices of gasoline, diesel and liquefied natural gas rose 27.6%, 30.1% and 26.9% year over year, respectively, and prices of hospitality and air tickets fell by 7.4% and 2.4%, said the NBS.
